The school which I am currently teaching in,Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School is a Chinese independent school.Students of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School have to sit for both the "Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia"(SPM)which is held by the government and also the Unified Examination by the United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia(Dong Zong).Textbooks are the main source of knowledge for students.This Thesis makes a comparative analysis of the Chinese Language Textbook between the Dong Zong and government education department by referencing other articles written,comparison of textbooks and through an interview.The thesis is divided into five parts.The first chapter is mainly about the reason I chose this topic,and also some thoughts and methods carried out while writing this thesis and researching.The content of the second chapter is divided into eight parts,which are mainly to compare the objectives of the lesson,the teaching objectives,teaching points,textbook style,text genre,Chinese knowledge,and evaluation methods.The third chapter consists of the induction and summary of the interviews with the independent school Chinese Language teachers and students,and also the Government School Chinese Language teachers and students.The fourth chapter consists of suggestions for the compilation of Independent School and Government School Chinese Language teaching material.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the thesis.The author puts forward some suggestions on the newly-compiled textbooks of Dong Zong and Government Education Department in future.Undoubtedly,the textbook of the Dong Zong has a strong and solid foundation.However,the selection of texts should be modernized in a way the students may relate the teaching to their daily lives.In addition,more local articles and texts should be selected in order to cultivate students'patriotism.As for the government Education department Chinese Language textbooks,the author suggests that the articles selected should be shorter and more appealing to students nowadays such as using a story to bring out the teaching.
