The ancient books of China bring together the rich and profound 5,000-year-old cultural essence of the Chinese people.The crystallization wisdom of the ancient Chinese people is the most precious and outstanding cultural heritage of China.Learning Literary Chinese in the ancient prose and poetry not only improves our expressive language and rhetorical skills but also strengthens our humanistic qualities.We can also develop our morality and sentiment from the opulent text.A lot of the vocabulary and idioms in the written vernacular Chinese come from Literary Chinese.Therefore,learning Literary Chinese not only improves our knowledge but also help us to understand the life,thoughts,essence and wisdom of the ancient Chinese people,and learn from the losses and triumphs of the past.However,it is difficult for the modern middle school students to read Literary Chinese,mainly because they have failed to grasp the application and expression of the classical words.At the same time,these students have limited exposure to Literary Chinese.Therefore,the study of Literary Chinese seems repulsive and daunting.In addition,Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country where students learn in three languages:Chinese,Malay,and English.Some students have strong language skills and good Chinese foundation before entering the middle school.It is not a problem for them to learn Literary Chinese.On the contrary,students with poor Chinese language foundation will suffer from mental block and simply give up when it comes to studying Literary Chinese.This thesis took the second-year students of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School as the survey object,investigated the condition of learning Literary Chinese,conducted analysis and research on the basis of the investigation,studied the status quo and problems of students' learning,and proposed countermeasures and effective ways to improve students' interest in learning.The main content of this paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter One is mainly about the origin of the problem,the research significance of this paper,the research method adopted in this paper,and the research countermeasures of this thesis.Chapter Two focuses on the current situation of Literary Chinese teaching in the junior middle school in Malaysia.The questionnaire survey method was used to investigate and analyze the teaching and learning of Literary Chinese.Chapter Three analyzes the results of Literary Chinese teaching in the junior middle school from the aspects of students' background,students' personal factor,teachers and textbook.Chapter Four puts forward corresponding suggestions and countermeasures from the perspective of teachers and students.Chapter Five is the conclusion and summarization;stating the unresolved issues and the direction of further research.
