I had made an interesting collection concerning parlances of teacher's role, such as the Imparter of Knowledge, the Carrier of Human Culture, the Student's Governor, the Executor of the Curriculum, the Student's Behavior Molder, and so on. What's more, there are some familiar metaphors of Teacher's Role, such as Tong's Seed, Candle, Barrel Theory, Gardener, and Engineer of Mankind's Soul. A book, the Teacher's Role , written by D. John McIntyre and Mary John O' Hair in United States, introduces that teacher's roles can be classified as follows: the Organizer Role, the Exchanges Role, the Inspirer Role, the Governor Role, the Reformer Role, the Consultant Role, the Ethics Role, the Occupation Role, the Political Role, and the Law Role. With the reform of new curriculum, some new formulations concerning teacher's role also come up, such as the Teacher of Scholar Type, the Teacher of Expert Type, the Teacher of Intelligent Type, the Teacher of Research Type, the Teacher of Self-reflection Type, and so on. All these indicate that something about teacher'role is a complicated problem. In my opinion, taking a wide view on formulations of the teacher's role in history, although each formulation has dissimilarity, according to its substance of educational thinking, we can classify two kinds of them: the Teacher of Monologue Type and the Teacher of Dialogue Type.The transformation of the society brings the transformation of knowledge, and the transformation of knowledge will cause educational reform, and the education reform will put forward the new request and challenge to teacher's role, so teacher's role faces a transformative problem. Because of the restriction of the educational system and the long-term conventional thinking, this kind of transformation can not be finished in one day, but as one kind of trend and direction, the current can't be resisted. Therefore the study about the transformation of teacher's role at a new period will play a significant role in theory and practice. This paper will try to begin with why we want to carry on a teacher's role transformation, and after looking back the history of the theories about study of teacher's role in nation and abroad, we can make the first step of study about what is the necessity of teacher's role transformation and how to carry on this transformation (from monologue to dialogue).
