The Research Of The Relationship Among Vocational Objectives, Vocational Tendency And Work Values

Occupation choice is a crucial decision made by individuals under the influence of subjective and objective factors. Whether an individual makes a good or bad choice has a direct affect on the match degree between the individual and occupation, on the exert of a person's capability and the job performance of the organization. Since the beginning of 21 s' century, scholars and researchers carried out the study on the subjective psychical factors influencing occupation of an individual through all kinds of means. Vocational tendency and work values are the major factors concerned by psychologists and occupational-guide experts. Work values is the stable component in one's philosophy, which will influence the attitude to job and the vocational behavior. The measurement of work values is to reveal the structure of work values, namely the demand related with the work and the requirement of work characters. The measurement of vocation tendency is to evaluate the type of one's vocation preference.The author measures 244 students (including 137 male subjects and 107 female subjects) by applying, Vocational Tendency Search of Holland and Work Values Questionnaire. The author chooses subjects from different majors: 70 subjects in liberal arts, 75 in science, 99 in engineering and draws the following conclusions by analyzing the results:Through the questionnaire on work values of college students, the research shows that female college students achieve higher score than male college students in safety and other-followed; students majoring in engineering courses pay much more attention to development factor than students majoring in liberal arts and science. This questionnaire on the vocational tendency of college students demonstrates that there are much more male college students with realistic and researching vocational tendency; while there are much more female college students with artistic and conventional vocational tendency. Students majoring in engineering and science lay more stress on realistic and researching vocational tendency than students majoring in liberal arts; students majoring in liberal arts lay more stress on artistic vocational tendency than students majoring in engineering and science.Through the questionnaire on vocational objectives and vocational tendency, this research intends to know whether the vocational objectives of the college students match their Vocational tendency. The result of the research demonstrates that there are only 37.6% college students whose vocational objectives are matching with their vocational tendency. And the further analysis shows that those college students whose vocational objectives are matching with their social vocational tendency pay more attention to the health factors when job hunting; those college students whose vocational objectives are not matching with their social vocational tendency pay more attention to the reputation factor when job hunting; those college students whose vocational objectives are not matching with their conventional vocational tendency pay more attention to the development factor when job hunting.
