The use and prevalence of computer technology, specifically multimedia and network have changed language learning and teaching in recent years. More and more studies related to CALT have been reported. However, most of them have focused on students, on how technology affects them and their attitudes, few has been done from the point view of the teacher, and even fewer in a Chinese context. The present study starts from the development of technology and foreign language teaching, teaching characteristics in the Cyber Era, then moves on to teachers' role orientation and how to improve English teaching. The study intends to establish its theoretical ground on the basis of constructivism. Students come to learning situations with already formulated knowledge, ideas, and understandings. The previous knowledge is the raw material for the new knowledge they will create. In the teaching process, students' participation, setting creation, resources providing, questions exploration and language expressions are the main contents. Under such circumstances, teachers are not only knowledge imparters, but also exert many other roles like organizer, facilitator, researcher, participant, supervisor and assessor and so on.Chapter One focuses on the background, rationale and necessity of the study, and gives the term definitions and overall structure as well.Chapter Two makes a literature review of the previous study conducted by experts and researchers as well as the insufficient of others studies-being unsystematic and lack of pedagogy. This thesis intends to bridge the gap between the theoretical study and practice.Chapter Three centers on the analysis of teachers' role orientation. This section is the focus of the thesis, aiming at teachers' multi-functions facilitating college English teaching with proper pedagogy. Technology is technology, and the lack of proper pedagogy leads only to an expensive white elephant.Chapter Four deals with the countermeasures in improving English teaching. For the purpose of better illustrating teachers' positions in Cyber Era, changing teaching methodology and taking some uptodate teaching methods are necessary. In Chapter Five, the study reinforces the theoretical backup, the main findings, recommendation for English teachers as well as limitation and directions for further study. In conclusion, the study makes an attempt to analyze English teacher's role orientation on the basis of constructivism and figure out the countermeasures to improve teaching. Just as pointed out in the study, English teachers are entrusted with great pressure to educate English talents for our country. Only they improve themselves and adapt to the development of the society, can they make English class a wonder place for language teaching and learning.
