| Competitive sports [CS] are full of vigor because of competition. As anindispensable part of people's lives in modern society, CS provides people withinfinite relaxation and amusement. Competitors are baptized by struggle andcompetition and are laden with the joy of success and the exercise of failure. It is aspark in the ideal of CS to enjoy competition and Olympics. CS is man's challenge oftheir sport competence, their persistent pursuit of health and beauty and a windowthat shows the development and progress of man's modern civilization. CS, whosevalue and functions are multiple, has played an increasingly important role in theintegration of life and has undergone a glorious more-than-100-year history in theprocess of cultivating and promoting health awareness of the whole human race.Nothing can go smoothly without any setbacks, and CS takes no exception. Inthe society of CS, political, economic, cultural and many other kinds of benefits,which are summarized as the benefits of CS, intersect together. Due to the benefitsthat CS itself desires, the intensification of our nation's understanding of the CS'function on politics, and the public's needs for competitive benefits, the interventionof commercial and economic activities, there are some substantial problems emergedin the development of CS. It may be of some reference for some people concernedwho probe into these substantial problems and promote the substantial and healthy development of CS. This essay consists of:1. Dialectical statements and analysis of the definition, function and value ofCS.2. Description and analysis of those exemplified substantial problems exposedin the development of CS.3. Some countermeasures to achieve the goal of sustainable development of CSbased on the description and analysis mentioned above.4. Prospects of the sustainable development of CS in China.The conclusions this essay educes are:1. CS' functions and value are multiple, and its development involves fields ofpolitics, economy, culture, etc, and needs more humane care.2. Those substantial problems mainly show in people's doubts on traditionaltraining theory, and misunderstanding of CS due to the harm that some unavoidablyemergent and contingent events do to competitors and participants. They are alsoexposed in the phenomenon: the integration of human source of CS is gettingrestricted as a result of the low level of coaches and competitors' cultural knowledgethe difficulties of retired athletes in employment; the multiplying competing ruleslead to the shocking paradox of sportsmen's training and competition; drugs andpeople's benefit-oriented values are eroding CS; the imbalance between fund inputand output makes people think deeply; the worship on technology andcommercialism of CS have resulted in the ignorance of morality and ethics of sports;and finally political conflicts are impacting the healthy development of CS.3. The sustainable development of CS is concerned several important systems:the fund input of CS, the construction of the management system, the development oflegal institution in CS, the integration of CS and educational system, along with thereunderstanding of CS based on science and technology, and public involvement.4. In order to realize the sustainable development of CS, we should take thefollowing methods: insist on the combination of sports and education; base on thescientific rule of "3 Cong 1 Da" (base on hardness, strictness, and practice; plenty of exercises); put more emphasis on the software management; pursue the unification ofhonesty, kindness and beauty of CS; achieve the weakening of social utilitarianismby basing on the humane theory; high tech is getting applied on athletes in order topromote the development of CS; it is a long term to struggle against exhilarant interms of the creation of rules and the process of operation.5. On the sustainable development of CS in China, we should make an evolutivethinking in the aspects of legal construction, humanistic construction, publicinvolvement etc.
