The Application Of Effective Teaching Strategies To The Improvement Of The Reading Skills For Middle School Students

Language is a tool for human communication.The aim of language teaching is to foster student's communicative competence by using the language.According to the request of National Curriculum Standards. Reading ability is one of the four basic language skills. For Chinese Students, reading has become the most important skill in English learning.As this era of information demands that people read extensively and effectively,it is one of the major tasks of senior English teaching to improve the student's ability of reading comprehension.Consequently,it is the senior English teacher's task to employ effective teaching approaches to the reading class to develop the reading skills of senior student's. The research of reading methods contributes not only to the theoretical development of language teaching, but also to improvement of the quantity of teaching and reading skills. The paper introduces seven effective reading methods to illustrate how to train reading skills and the reading ability. Firstly, the author makes a general survey of the present situation of Senior English for China(SEFC) and analyze it.Secondly,the author makes a study of reading backgrounds and reading aims.Finally, according to the challenges of our present teaching of reading and the development of the language competence and the communicative competence,the author points out English teachers should choose proper reading materials and use effective methods to develop the student's skills in reading.It comes to the conclusion that English teachers should size the key contents of the reading ,apply the learning contents to the real application, and merge language form and language function into an integral whole. As a consequence, teachers can help students to improve the reading skills and comprehensive ability.
