A Study On The Characteristic Discipline Construction In Local Colleges

Under the irreversible trend of China high education popularization and diversification, the competition in education market is becoming increasingly fierce, and the strategy of winning by characteristic has become a consensus in colleges and universities. Especially the local colleges and universities, compared with the national colleges and universities, have congenital deficiencies and disadvantages of accumulation in their existence and development, so that characteristic strategy is key to enhance their competitiveness. A characteristic local college or university should have their own characteristic disciplines, which is the most remarkable sign of them. A local college or university can win the fierce competition on the condition of having some characteristic disciplines. But now, assimilation tendency commonly existed in the discipline construction of local colleges and universities so that they lost their own characteristic, the directly cause of which is that they developed in the same type and the personal training mode is simple, even these universities can't meet the social needs of supplying multi-level, multi-type and multi-standard talents, meanwhile, they also made themselves fall in the development dilemma.The core problem solved in this paper is how to construct characteristic disciplines. From this point of view, by taking research methods of literature analysis, case study, comparative study, investigate and interview study, and using the theory of strategy, higher pedagogy, higher educational administration, based on the problem of assimilation tendency, the main objective of this paper is to analyze the present situation and cause of characteristic disciplines construction in local colleges and universities, to point out the significance of characteristic disciplines construction for a local college or university in its existence and development, and to analyzes the characteristic discipline construction strategically according to the basic theory of characteristic discipline construction. The key step of building characteristic discipline construction is to form characteristic. Firstly, deciding the reference of "characteristic" by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of characteristic discipline construction, and the opportunities and challenges that local colleges and universities faced. Secondly, cultivating their own characteristic disciplines by making full use of their advantages of constructing the traditional subjects, local characteristic subjects and interdisciplinary subjects. Finally, maintaining and enhancing their characteristics by capital input, innovative consciousness, discipline evaluation and time. In the end, the theory of characteristic discipline construction can be illustrated by further analyzing the case of discipline construction of Zhejiang Normal University.
