Research On Task-based Teaching Method Of Senior English Reading

Reading is one of the most important parts of China's Senior Middle School English teaching. The compilers of Senior English textbooks focus on the selection of reading materials and courses offered. The reading level of senior students cant't meet the standards of currriculums and the reform of English teaching. The new curriculum standard demands that senior school students should reach certain criterions in reading and students should study by themselves. So the traditional reading teaching method can't keep up with the modern pace. With the development of basic course reform, it is necessary to study and develop a new teaching made of English reading.I have read a great many books on teaching English reading and task-based teaching. After the study of many reading teaching methods and thinking over the question with the help of my own teaching experience I have tried practicing the Task-based Teaching Method of Reading.Providing us with a new teaching mode of English reading this teaching method has been experimented over the past one and a half semesters so as to test its workability. The results, stastistically analyzed and evaluated, demonstrate that this teaching method is fairly successful. It can effectively arouse the students' interest in reading, improve the students' reading strategy and improve both the students' reading ability and the students' ability in other fields such as listening, speaking and writing. Students cultivate a good habit of reading and learn more in classes. However, the Task-based Teaching Method of Reading has its own shortcomings, which need our hard work to overcome in the future. For example, it is hard for teachers to adopt the Task-based Teaching Method in a systematic and continuous way. Students don't want to think on their own and they have to spend a lot of time in completing the task.
