With the curriculum reforming rapidly, the innovation of Chinese reading teaching is inevitable. Many learned educators are actively searching a way to raise students' interest in Chinese, improve the efficiency of Chinese reading teaching and reflect the characteristics of Chinese. In my opinion, circumstantial teaching is an effective approach to raise students' interest and lead them to learn by themselves. We can make use of literatures, observations, cases and experiences to study circumstantial teaching, which started early in the ancient times and first used and took effect in Chinese teaching in primary school. Although middle school students differ from primary school students in many aspects, they have something in common, such as cognitive ability, affection and attitude. Thus, circumstantial teaching is still an effective approach. The aim of the circumstantial teaching of the Chinese reading teaching in junior middle school is different from that in primary school. The paper mainly discuss the characteristics, usages, approaches and values of circumstantial teaching of the Chinese reading teaching in junior middle school.
