| This thesis indicates a study which was carried out on campus of Beijing Technical School of Economics and Business in answer to the research questions: How to help the students of secondary technical schools to improve their oral English and to arouse their interest in oral English by applying multimedia to oral English teaching? The results of the study and analysis show that well-designed multimedia courseware can have a positive impact on students' oral English.The purpose of this action research is studying multimedia language teaching theory and the application of multimedia to teaching oral English. The multimedia language teaching theory has once gained great popularity among language teaching circles and has its special features. The writer began this thesis with a general statement on her rationale for undertaking a study in this area and set out the aims of this study on the basis of the original research questions. She stated the history, the development and the theoretical basis of multimedia language teaching. She also talked about the advantages and disadvantages of multimedia language teaching. Then, she introduced the whole research in detail.In this research the writer tried to explore the existing problems in oral English classes in secondary technical schools and pointed out the function of multimedia in oral English teaching. She assumed that the problems in oral English classes might be solved or at least partly solved by application of multimedia. After the research, two basic goals were achieved, one of which was to promote students' oral English learning interest, the other was to improve students' oral English grades.The participants in this research project were secondary technical school students in four first-year classes in Beijing Technical School of Economics and Business. They all majored in tourism. The experimental classe was given treatment, namely, using the multimedia courseware in oral English classes while the control class was taught in traditional methods. After one-term course study, comparisons about learning interest and oral English grades were made in two classes.This research project tentatively proposes some oral English instructional methods based on multimedia language teaching theory suitable in secondary technical schools, more research is needed in order to investigate further in this field. |
