The Shoalin culture is the excellent cultural heritage of Chinese nation, and the Shoalin kung fu is the distillate of the Chinese martial arts. During the long history of more than 1,500 years, the Shoalin Temple has experienced wax and wane for many times. Since modern times, the Shoalin Temple has been in its winters for a long time because of the jumbled warfare between the warlords and the roily society. Although the government had appropriated funds for the repair of the Shoalin temple, the Shoalin Temple didn't get out of its plight until the film was on view in 1982. Large quantities of tourists came to the Shoalin Temple after that movie was shown over the world, and that brought vital force to the age-old temple. Many factors, such as the development of Chinese economy, the increase in per capita income and the change of the consumption concept have contributed to the prosperity of the Shoalin Temple today, but compared with other cultural heritage in China, this thesis puts an emphasis on the special relationship between film and Shoalin culture.As the economic value of Shoalin culture comes into view, the Shoalin Temple has been taken as the backbone of the local tourism and the signboard in the attracting investments. At the same time, the noun"Shoalin"has become the"fat"in the eyes of some companies and businessmen, so it has been rampantly registered as trademark by them.Thousands upon thousands people were crazy about Shoalin kung fu after enjoying the movies about the Shoalin Temple, which produced a good chance for Wushu education. There are no less than 100 schools in the name of"Shoalin"or"Shoalin Temple"; however, most of them actually have nothing to do with the Shoalin Temple. Those bastardly schools not only mislead the students. But also mar the reputation of the Shoalin temple and Shoaling Kung fu. Today global cultural industry is developing rapidly, how to realize the economic value of Shoalin culture, and find the proper way to develop the Shoaling cultural industry, is the other question this thesis deals with.
