After the 1997 return, national citizenship education, which takes Chinese history education as the main content, is paid much attention to in Hong Kong primary and secondary schools. Just in the same year, History Subject Committee of Secondary Schools affiliated to Hong Kong Curriculum Developing Committee compiled New Chinese History Curriculum standards, which becomes the editing criteria of Chinese history textbooks of Hong Kong that are studied in this thesis. Hence New Idea's Chinese History published by Hong Kong Educational Press Corporation in 2004 is chosen, of which its compiling background, compiling ideas, systems, structures and compiling styles are carefully studied. In this thesis, the compiling characteristics and new teaching ideas as well as the enlightenment for the history textbooks in mainland are provided.The significances of this research consist in: the practice of history textbooks can be enriched by means of researches of Hong Kong Chinese history textbooks, meanwhile some pieces of proposals of amendments for mainland's history textbooks in the future can be provided, and the quality of history textbooks can be improved as well. Through this research, the history teaching theory in middle schools can be enriched; the efficiency of history teaching can be improved; the student-centered teaching idea in the curriculum reform at present can be well embodied. This study will try to be useful to the steady reform of new curriculum to its full extent as well.
