Modern university is a unique organization, which is responsible for a number of social functions and missions. With Globalization and the Information Age, the university has become increasingly apparent as the axis of social institutions in the economic and social development. The world's advanced level of first-class university is a national symbol of the development of higher education, a concentrated expression of the comprehensive national strength. University of London established by Royal Charter in 1836, reflected the establishment of the Industrial Revolution in Britain since the political, economic, scientific and cultural development requirements, as well as changes in British higher education. The University of London is a federal University and is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the UK. The University is recognized globally as a world leader in Higher Education, and has an outstanding international reputation for the quality of the teaching and research at its Colleges and Institutes. With the end of last century, Chinese government began a new round of adjustment of the faculties; many new universities amalgamate with the independent universities or colleges. University of scale, organizations can not function effectively; universities need to reform the internal management, while the core of the reform is the reform of the organizational structure of universities. As one of the world's leading universities, University of London, its organizational structure was also faced with the challenge, but a federal university with its own unique characteristics, can be for our universities, in particular, the giant multi-campus University to provide an internal management system can refer to the experience.The study analyzed the University of London Statutes 2008 1st, University of London Act 1994, and the official publication and other relevant information of the University of London, summed up the characteristics of the existing organizational structure, for our colleges and universities reform proposals.Main thesis is divided into three parts:First, introduce the organizational structure of the University of London from the latitude and longitude. From the latitude with three major parts: the decision-making body, the administrative organization and the central academic bodies, delegation. From the longitude with two main parts: the University of London and the colleges. In this part, the study focused on the relationship between the Council and the Board of Directors and the relationship between universities and colleges. The independent members of Board of Trustees and the advisory role of The Collegiate Council, reflects the management features of the University of London, not only pay attention to people outside the schools, but the professional management of the University. The relationship between the colleges and the University is loose. The colleges are very independence on enrollment, teaching, economic, and management.Second, the study analyzed the organizational structure of the University of London to carry out the characteristics. In this paper, the organizational structure of the University of London is independent, flexibility and coordination. First of all, the colleges of University of London have greater autonomy in teaching, management, and scientific research. Furthermore, the relationship between universities and colleges reflected the flexibility. The colleges as an independent activities join into the University. The college of the University of"Management"is limited to grant degrees, and assess the qualifications of teachers. The colleges paid for the services which afford by the University. College is not limited to the resolution the Board of Trustees. Finally, there were two aspects reflecting the organizational structure of the University of London as coordination. One is the coordination the overall operation of the system: the Council made decision - the Board of Trustees conceded the adoption of the decision - implements the decision– the Delegation supervised the implementation - feedback to the Council or the Board of Trustees. And the coordination decision-making to ensure the University made effective decision, implement actively, feedback running smooth, and promoted the University healthy operate. Second, the relationship between universities and colleges was not only the manager and the manager of this one-way links, but also the colleges of the University to participate in decision-making to affect the development of the universities by the Council. The relationship between the University of London and the colleges of the University reflected not only independence but the coordination.Third, on the basis of the organizational structure of the University of London and its independence, flexibility, coordination characteristics the University of London organizations were evaluated. This article holds that the is an open, democratic, decentralized organization. The decentralized organization guaranteed the Democracy, on the other hand, the openness of the organization has strengthened its management structure optimization. So that made the University of London as one of the world-renowned universities.Finally, this paper provided some suggestions for our reformation.Chinese large-scale or multi-campus University, as it is known for some history reasons, is not conducive to achieve high-level goals. University of London has a history over one hundred years. From studying the organizational structure of the University of London it will be conducive to the construction and development of our universities.
