University Organization Properties And Structural Study

Based on organization theories, this dissertation made a thorough discussion on organizational characteristics and establishment of university organizations by applying such research means and narrative ways as grafting the history in the reality, comparing the situations at home and abroad, blending the specific with the general. The following problems are supposed to be settled: 1. What is the essencial quality of universities and which are the basic qualities of universities? 2. How to design organizational structure of universities according to organizational structure theory and organizational characteristics of universities? 3. What are the features of the various qualities of universities and how to establish such organizations with different qualities? 4. The developing trends of organizations and their influence on university organizations and organizational structures.The answers to the questions mentioned above form the basic frame of the dissertation. It consists of five parts.The first part is an introduction. It discusses the research reasons, meanings, contents,innovation and approaches of the paper. It mainly analyses the previous research achievements related to the paper and it shows the superiorities and strong points of making research into organizational qualities and structures of universities through the perspective of organization theory. This part is a general introduction and summary of the dissertation.The second part (Chapter I) is on the history of organization theories and university organizations. By reviewing the history and reality of organization theories as well as various schools, by sorting out the developing sequence of organization theories and differentiating and analyzing the similarities and differences of the ideas of various schools, this chapter analyses the basic clues and changing orbit of organization development theories. Through the specific perspective of the transformation of organizational structure and the set-up of management organs, it analyses and summarizes the developing course of university organizations. This part is a historical expounding on theory and practice.The third part consists of two chapters, chapter II and chapter III. Chapter II is an analysis of qualities of university organizations. By observing and studying university organizations comprehensively and analyzing the internal organs, it summarizes the general features of university organizations with terminologies of organization theories. It puts forward that university organizations hold the features of different qualities. On this basis, the paper analyses universities' characteristics from the aspects of the forces that influence universities' development, the management patterns of universities and the constitution of the university staff. Thus, the conclusion that modern universities have academic, administrative and industrial qualities is drawn. The writer also analyses the reasons for the rising of these three qualities, their basic features and their relationships. Chapter III is an analysis of university organizational structures. It analyses and summarizes design theories of organizational structures and the design of university organizational structures. It discusses concretely the relationships between the scale of university organizations, strategies, environment, duties and organizational structures. It also discusses the designing principles of organizational structures of various organization theories and the strong and weak points as well as the applying sphere of various forms of organizational structures.Basing on these analyses and discusses, I put out my viewpoint on the design of university organizational structures that is to lay stress on the committee system, divisional structure system and matrix structure system.The fourth part consists of three chapters (from Chapter IV to Chapter VI ).
