PurposeThis study is to provide scientific reference for strategic management of regional higher education and intellectual-cultivation and management of science and technology of provincial higher colleges,by studying the relationship among the fundamental research ability,scientific knowledge production ability and intellectual-cultivation ability of the provincial higher colleges in Shanxi.ObjectThe fundamental research ability,scientific knowledge production ability, intellectual-cultivation ability and their relationship of seven independent provincial higher colleges in Shanxi.MethodsLiterature Review,Thematic Group Discussion,Synthetical Evaluation,Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches,Spearman Correlative Analysis and Corresponding Analysis were used in this study.Results1.The trend of fundamental research ability,scientific knowledge production ability and intellectual-cultivation ability of higher colleges in Shanxi province is growing up in general.2.The intellectual-cultivation ability of Shanxi province higher colleges is relatively strength.3.The fundamental research ability of higher colleges in Shanxi province is not strengh enough, the tops are Comprehensive Universities.4.The knowledge production ability of Shanxi provincial higher colleges is not strengh enough, even it is relatively low in some colleges.5.The intellectual-cultivation ability of Shanxi province higher colleges is highly corresponding to the fundamental research ability and the correlation coefficient is 0.917.6.The scientific knowledge production ability of Shanxi province higher colleges is correlation with the fundamental research ability,and the correlation coefficient is 0.767.7.It can' t be thought that there is relationship between the scientific knowledge production ability and the intellectual-cultivation ability of Shanxi province higher colleges.Conclusion 1.The most significant contribution of Shanxi province higher colleges is intellectual-cultivation rather than fundamental research and scientific knowledge production.2.The fundamental research ability and the intellectual-cultivation ability of Shanxi province higher colleges can be improved by each other.3.Shanxi province higher colleges is given priority to teaching,research capabilities is desiderated to a high level.4.Top colleges and universities are closely related with high-level indicators system,and post-ranking colleges and universities are closely related with low-levels.If a index is a low probability event,it isn' t related with the sequence of the colleges and universities.Suggestion1.The provincial higher colleges must pay important attention to scientific knowledge production ability to improve its ability to boost the gowth of the intellectual-cultivation ability,scilicet, teaching should be boosted by scientific research.2.In order to make scientific knowledge production ability and the intellectual-cultivation ability improve to a higher level,the provincial higher colleges should increase investment in science and technology,strengthen the fundamental research ability,and assume national high-level items.3.The provincial higher colleges should contribute predominant subject to setting up specific subject and specific colleges and universities that to be won.Originality in this studyIt's first time to study the quantitative research and the relationship among the fundamental research ability,the knowledge production ability and the intellectual-cultivation ability in provincial higher colleges.Assumption for future study1.To collect the interesting information of more provincial higher colleges,make the index system perfect,and evaluate colleges and universities more comprehensively and systematicly.2.To take all colleges and universities in a province(cities,districts) as objects for the study, analyse their characteristics and input-output model.
