School-based teaching and research which is organized by schools themselves is a form of professional development of teachers. It is to meet the needs of the development of schools and teachers. When carrying out school-based teaching and research, schools should decide their own research objectives, research content, and ways of carrying out their research to solve actual problems in the process of teaching for schools and teachers.School-based teaching and research in primary and secondary schools in rural areas is the key element to improving the quality of rural schools and to enhance the core competitiveness of the schools, and it is also an effective way to promote the professional development of teachers. In this paper, I will firstly do a survey about the problems that schools in rural areas have when carrying out school-based teaching and research. Then I will study the problems that exist in the work of school-based teaching and research. And I will also point out some solutions to these problems.First of all, I did a survey among the primary and secondary school teachers in rural areas in Foshan City, Guangdong Province. I gave questionnaires to teachers in more than 16 rural primary and secondary schools in the five districts in Foshan. I learned some detailed information about various problems that exist in the primary and secondary schools in rural areas when they carry out school-based teaching and research. I also gave some comparative analysis to these problems.Secondly, in this paper, I gave overall reasons to the problems that rural primary and secondary school teachers meet with when they carry out school-based teaching and research. I gave some concrete analysis to the key problems that the primary and secondary teachers in rural areas meet with when they carry out school-based teaching and research. I did this in three aspects: the lack of cultural atmosphere of teaching and research in schools, the lack of spirit of reflection among teachers on teaching and research and the lack of teachers' awareness of self-exploration.Finally, in this paper, I put forward some solutions to the problems that primary and secondary teachers in rural areas encounter when they carry out school-based teaching and research in the following four aspects: First, we should promote the local pragmatic culture to improve the professional ethics of teachers. Second, in schools, we should build a security system for school-based teaching and research to stimulate the enthusiasm of teachers to do it better. Third, we should set up a reasonable system of school-based teaching and research to create a research-based study team. Last but not least, we should form an environment for the teachers to do school-based teaching and research to promote sincere co-operation among teachers in schools.
