English has become the main language in all kinds of international occasion. Therefore, many countries are reinforcing and reforming foreign language teaching of basic education, and English teaching has been paid more and more attention. However, the embarrassing situation of the present low-efficient teaching is still perplexing a lot of teachers and learners. It's necessary to have the ability of fast-reading and accurate-understanding to grasp information quickly. When teachers offer efficient and accurate reading skills, they not only help students improve reading and language ability in many aspects, more importantly, but also open the door to the colorful world. Efficient teaching should be teachers' consistent pursuit and object.The thesis firstly probes into the definition of efficiency-teaching, and points out that the nature of English Reading Instruction is cultivate students' ability of constructing different meaning through active reading, based on which brings up the goal of the Effective Reading Instruction of English: after a period of teaching, students have made great improve in reading knowledge and skills, and on the basis of understanding and respecting our country's culture, they can positively and actively learn foreign country's culture. The author points out that the value of efficiency-teaching lies in its respecting for the students themselves and concerning with learning process and emphasizing on the reflecting upon teaching. And then clarify it is of great practical significance to study on efficiency teaching of Middle-school English reading under the background of the New Curriculum Reform. The author proves the hypothesis through empirical research: the present English reading teaching of middle-school is still "high pay, low gain". And then probes the problems that teachers and students themselves have and the process of reading teaching exists. To analyze the deep reason of low-efficiency of English reading teaching, the author profoundly analyze the concrete reason mainly from the two aspects of the macro—situation limitations of English teaching and the negative influence of traditional English reading teaching thoughts and strategy. The thesis generalizes and concludes the research of efficiency-teaching criteria, based on which probes into the efficiency-criteria of English reading teaching: make students able to teach themselves, improve their ability to use English, combine teaching and students' real life and teachers and students participant in creative activity together. The last part of the thesis probes into the way of improving the macro—situation of English teaching by improving the teacher's quality and changing English studying environment better, and analyzes the idea teachers should have to enforce efficiency-teaching, such as, the idea of teaching material and evaluation, etc., and gives some suggestion on the enforcement of efficiency-teaching.
