For a learner who learns English as a foreign language, reading comprehension is seen as an effective way to improve his English. English reading ability plays an important role in improving reading capability, which also exercises impacts on other capacities of the learners including listening, speaking and writing. It is proved that the effectiveness of the teaching of English reading in middle schools largely affects the outcomes of English teaching. However, the traditional knowledge-based language teaching model, with the support of the teaching language practice, has proved to be inefficient and less effective. Besides, in Beijing, a three-step English reading teaching model is largely adopted, while this model is widely used in most of the middle schools, but it has been simplified and low efficient. Thus, a new English reading teaching model is needed.Based on previous academic achievements, interviews and surveys, the study focuses on an efficient English reading teaching model, hoping to make a contribution to the development of the English reading teaching efficiency of middle schools in Beijing. Relevant issues in the teaching of English reading are deal with in detail in the study. With the help of Theory of Reading Process Models, Discourse Analysis and Schematic Theory, and on the basis of the new curricular criteria, a reading-based English teaching experiment is conducted in the course of the research to test its effectiveness.
