Under the context of quality education,"health first" and life-long physical education,it requires the school physical education face all the students,cultivating the students' comprehensive ability of physical health,mental health and sociability.As an important component and the most active part of the school physical education, after-school sports competitions are supposed to make an important contribution to help provide all-round development of students,but the situation of after-school sports competition is inconsistent with the current educational background of China's colleges and universities.Much research is needed for the scholars to do on after-school sports competitions;it is also in urgent need of more support and concern for after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities from the school leaders and sports workers. Through the investigation and study of the understanding and status quo of after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities,the purpose of this paper is to find out the problems and draw attention from the colleges and universities and some relevant departments,setting out the development trend of China's current after-school sports competitions,shedding light for the development of after-school sports competition in colleges and universities,and laying foundation for future research on after-school sports competitions.In this paper,taken from six cities in 12 institutions as participants in the survey.Using methods such as literature,expert interviews,questionnaires,observation and comparative study methods,this paper investigates and analyzes the status quo and current development of after-school sports competitions.This paper finds(1) that the current understanding of after-school sports competitions in the colleges and universities, especially the understanding of their function and content is not comprehensive enough; (2) the development of after-school sports competitions exists much inadequacy in the number of participants,events,sources of funding and other aspects;(3) the organization of these competitions is only skin-deep without the actual practical implementation of the action;and(4) in management,the managers are not professional,failing to achieve the continuity and systemic management of after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities.In addition,this paper points out the secret of success of after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities abroad.Taking USA for example,its complete competition system,multi-channel sources of funding and scientific,professional management experience are supposed to provide some reference for the development of after-school sports competition of our country.Finally,this paper summarizes and concludes the development trend and environment of after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities of our country.The development trend of after-school sports competitions in colleges and universities of our country is mainly represented in the entry size,form of organization,and functional change of Competitions.As for the development environment,this paper makes specific analysis on both the internal and external environment,and it offers some count measures for the development of after-school sports competitions.Finally,colleges and universities to carry out after-school sports competitions to highlight the "three characteristics",college sports after-school sports competitions, fitness and recreation co-exist;to develop projects at the same time traditional and innovative content competition;sports integration with the campus culture to highlight education philosophy;to broaden sources of funding channels and so on.And build a complete model of after-school sports competitions,after-school sports competition for colleges and universities to raise the reference.
