English course was found on the curriculum of primary schools in Ganzhou, a city located in south Jiangxi Province, in 1995. And it began to be found on the curriculum of primary schools in rural areas of Ganzhou in 2003. Five years after English course was promoted in primary schools in rural areas of Ganzhou, the author try to figure out the present English teaching situation of the transition from primary school to junior middle school, with focus putting on the understanding of the present situation and problems exsiting. Then try to give suggestions to solve the problems, so as to enhance the effectiveness of English teaching in both primary and junior middle schools, thus to smooth the transition between the two stages.The thesis consists of six chapters, Chapter One is an introduction of the research background, research aims, significances and the contents as well as the methods. Chapter Two concerns the theoretical study, which includes Piaget's Theory on the Stages of the Development of Children's Perception, The Affective Filter Hypothesis and the Constructivism. And it also summarizes the research on transition of foreign language teaching from primary school to juior middle at home and abroad. Chapter Three is an investigation of the English learning and teaching situation of the primary and junior middle schools in rural areas of Ganzhou, with results demonstrated in forms and graphs. Using the statistics in the former chapter and the interviews related, Chapter Four analyzes the present situation of the transition between the two stages. Chapter Five draws the conclusions and offers some initial suggestions to the teachers, schools and relevant education departments and the students as well.
