College counselors are the backbone of ideological and political education of the college students, the college students'guide of life and intimate friends of personal growth. As the main force of ideological and political education of the college students, college counselors undertake the important duty of training and educating people and they are the main force of implementing Party's educational policy of colleges and ensuring the direction of socialist way of running schools. To strengthen and improve the construction of college counselor team of the new period is the fundamental guarantee and effective way of completing this task.Currently, the new period is facing the stern challenges of the development of market-oriented economy, the change of international environment and popularization of higher education, the implementation of the credit system, the expansion of the students'enrollment the new students, socialization of college logistics, the coming of information society, the reform of teaching content of the colleges during the process of their development, the complex psychological condition of college students, unprecedented harsh employment situation. All of these require the college counselors who contact with students directly and frequently to make a new response. College ideological and political education is facing numerous new problems, new tasks and new challenges. So it is obvious that strengthening the construction of college counselor team is very important. College counselors should be capable of analyzing new situation and discovering and solving new problems so as to make the power and responsibility clear, improve the working capability and level continuously and optimize college counselor team.This paper explores four parts on the building of the college counselor team in the modern time.Firstly, the creation, development and acts on of our country colleges counselor system. It looks back at the development orbit of our country's college counselors system and analyzes the current situation, opportunities and challenges of college counselor team. Secondly, this paper clarifies the problems of the construction of the college counselorteam of the new period.
