Textbooks determine the teachers' teaching and students' learning to such a great extent that they play a key role in improving the quality of teaching.Considered as the medium through which the human spiritual wealth is delivered and accepted,Chinese language textbooks thus have an important position in the textbook system.Learning from and using the successful experience of the mother tongue textbooks abroad will help us build a new generation of Chinese language textbooks. Therefore,from the three dimensions of structure,content and presentation,the English language textbooks of California,America,will be explained and evaluated through the method of literature analysis and case analysis.This dissertation is made up of six chapters.Chapter 1 outlines the objects, significance,scope,methods,structure.Chapter 2 is about compiled theoretical research of writing part of Chinese textbooks.Chapter 3discusses the framework of English language textbooks of California from the aspects like formation,contents, index,text organization and task design.Chapter 4 deals with the content from the aspects of text selection,writing activities,written and oral language convention, listening and speaking activities.Chapter5 discourses the presentation of California English language textbooks from four aspects:language description,pictures and signs arrangement,structural clue and layout.Chapter 6 evaluates California English language textbooks according to the basic dimensions on textbook evaluation made by Gao Lingbiao,expecting it may be helpful in the organization of Chinese language textbooks.The innovation of this thesis has the following two points:First,in this paper,a typical literature textbook in United States is selected,which makes the study more direct and intuitive.From researching the typical textbook,learn and draw the experience of designing mother language textbook.Second,from the cognitive psychology,concept of knowledge and so on theory associated with the preparation of textbook,this thesis researches the content,structure and performance of textbook systematically.It provides some reference for the theory and construction of the preparation of textbook in our country.
