With the successive development of teaching innovation, all kinds of different teaching modes such as interactive teaching, activity teaching and task based teaching have been adopted in emphasizing students'active roles in learning and improving overall capabilities. For the same teaching goals mentioned above, communicative teaching which was adopted first in language classes was brought into China in the 1980's. Communicative teaching focuses on fostering students'communicative capacity and promoting overall development. By converting teaching materials into communicative activities to offer students opportunities to participate, communicative teaching provides possibilities for students to gain communicating and cooperating capabilities in simulated reality as well as knowledge and skills. That means communicative teaching plays a very important role in promoting students'comprehensive development. Communicative teaching facilitates students gaining knowledge, abilities, emotion quotient, personality development and social capacity. In general, communicative teaching is very practical.In this paper, the author uses narrative research based on methodology from qualitative research method to focus on a foreign teacher's communicative teaching. This paper consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction and gives a general statement about the definitions of teaching and communicative teaching. The second part puts a special emphasis on the previous theoretical research of communicative teaching, including Western and Chinese research achievements. The author makes several comments on these previous relevant researches. The third part states the author's thread of the research and explains the research methods the author has adopted. The fourth part is the key of this paper, including the introduction of the research objects, the lively narration of the communicative teaching, the analysis of the teaching effect, the conclusion of this research and the elaboration of the practical proposals. In the fifth and last part, the author lists some remaining unresolved issues.
