As more and more people have access to higher education, the employment situation for college students is growing increasingly grave, with the job market bedeviled by structural problems. Under the circumstances, a great number of graduates have to make do with jobs that are easy to get before they are able to choose their careers. But many of them quit the first jobs soon later, causing employers inconvenience and even loss in human resources management. Employers'concerns over the rising management costs are set to worsen the already grave situation in the job market. The thesis examines how career maturity affects individuals'occupational choices and state of employment. The author tries to probe into interrelations between the three, as well as how career maturity develops. She draws references from domestic and foreign research, uses the 2006 South Korean version of students'career maturity inventory compiled by Zhang Zhiyong, and works on data derived from self-designed questionnaires.The study indicates:(1) Students from the Central China University of Science and Technology have high marks in neither career maturity assessment as a whole, nor in factors that constitute it. Obvious discrepancy also exists between male and female students.(2) Students with high levels of career maturity begin to prepare for employment early and make career decisions out of rational consideration. They know better about their jobs and have optimistic expectations.(3) Job-selecting behaviors is closely related to the state of employment by both attitude and ability.(4) Career maturity, especially occupational values and objectives,have a remarkable impact on attitudes towards job selection and the ability of selecting jobs.(5) Job-selecting behaviors directly affect a graduate's state of employment. Career maturity can affect the state of employment directly, or indirectly by acting on job-selecting behaviors.
