Weariness of learning English is one of the psychological problems being prone to middle school students and the reason is complicated. Starting from a specific discipline, this study is focusing on the phenomenon of middle school students'weariness of learning English. It is needed to develop a questionnaire to measure the present status of middle school students'weariness of learning English and to explore whether psychological interventions can effectively and significantly improve or eliminate students'psychological weariness of learning English.Based on the methods of document analysis, individual interview, open-ended questionnaire investigation, the theoretical hypothesis was constructed firstly, then developed a preliminary questionnaire. After the EFA involved 511 middle school students of the preliminary questionnaire and the CFA investigated another sample of 605, the formal questionnaire was formed with 3 dimensions full of 20 items. The testing results show that the questionnaire has satisfactory statistical indexes. A second study was to test the present status of middle school students'weariness of learning English systematically, according to the first and second measurement results. Finally a 7-week study of the psychological interventions was implemented to 23 middle school students who were much wearier of learning English in Grade 8.The main results of this study are as follows:1. Under the background of our Chinese culture, the Questionnaire on Middle School Students'Weariness of Learning English consists of three dimensions, namely, inactive emotion and attitude, low study efficacy, unsuitable classroom behavior. Statistical tests indicate that the questionnaire is of satisfactory reliability and validity with a good construct and a clear meaning, so it can be a fit implement to measure middle school students'weariness of learning English and used in relative research.2. Middle school students'weariness of learning English doesn't reach the worst level, however, we shouldn't optimize the present status. Among three dimensions, inactive emotion and attitude, low study efficacy get the highest average scores, while unsuitable classroom behavior does the lowest one.There are significant differences among middle school students from different sexes, schools and grades. Specifically speaking, male students are wearier of learning English than females; the higher grade the students are in, the wearier they become, among six grades, 7th junior graders are in the least weariness, while 2nd and 3rd senior graders are on the peak; students from general schools are much wearier than those from key schools.3. Psychological interventions can effectively and significantly improve middle school students'psychological weariness of learning English in some way, but many other interventions and effective teaching strategies would be needed perseveringly if the weariness was to be completely and totally eliminated.
