As for the evaluation in teaching, homework evaluation is still a weak one, compared with the classroom teaching evaluation, the teachers'evaluation and academic evaluation of students. In order to make the New Curriculum Reform go a step further, Ministry of Education of China decides to offer a course in English in primary school in and out of city through our country from the autumn of 2001. How is the English homework evaluation going on? What kind of problems are the teachers confronted with? Whether the traditional homework evaluation in English still exists a lot is a question to see.The methods in the research include interviews, physical collection of law and questionnaires. This research is mainly realized by distributing questionnaires, which fall into two categories, one for teachers and the other for students. Both of them mainly investigate the basic situation of primary school students'English homework, the teachers'and students'views on the evaluation of English homework respectively. From the investigation and analysis, we reached the following conclusions: Firstly, both of the teachers and students attach great importance to the role and significance of homework evaluation. Secondly, as a typical qualitative evaluation method, review has its unique advantages and attractiveness in schoolwork evaluation. In the English homework evaluation, symbol law reviews and languages act reviews especially gain popularity of teachers and students. Teachers prefer to get operational and practical evaluation techniques and methods.To sum up, the research maintains that, there are several issues in the primary English homework evaluation: boring operation results in a single type of knowledge– based evaluation; Full grant-wide approach to the homework evaluation results in a single evaluation of the main; The traditional evaluation concept leads to simplified evaluation; There still exists vague understanding of concepts in the evaluation of primary English homework. Paper also proposed on how to improve the homework evaluation practice for the teachers: First of all, teachers should accurately grasp the design of homework evaluation; Secondly, teachers should foster the sense of evaluation, and apply scientific and effective evaluation to their teaching practice, and link organically with their own professional development. On this basis, make a number of specific operational recommendations, mainly including: a grade plus stars,give expectation scores,use self–checklist, reviews add stickers, invite students to put forward their views on homework evaluation and use portfolio of homework.For students, train their sense of self-assessment before, during and after doing their homework.
