Teaching ancient poetry is an important channel to impart knowledge, cultivate ideology education and edify the emotion. The students will be imperceptibly influenced so as to improve their personality, achieve perfection, radiant with national spirit in life. Emphasizing on educating students about the national spirit, it is also necessary to motivate students to carry forward the national culture and spirit. "Learning the masterpieces of ancient China and experiencing the Chinese nation spirit implied we may lay a good foundation for promoting traditional culture." New curriculum standards require cultivating awareness of Chinese spirit in students. National culture is the most important way to embody our national spirit. Chinese literature is the essence of language and culture, and ancient poetry is no doubt the best of the literature. Learning ancient poetry enables students to appreciate this outstanding culture and mould their characters. It will also help students to be enthusiastic about our motherland and civilization, dedicating for the cause of human progress and forming healthy and positive attitude towards life.Over the years, ancient poetry appreciation is compulsory in the college entrance examination. Since 2002, college entrance test in China on the classical form of poetry has changed, replacing the objective multiple-choice items with some subjective ones, which includes the preliminary appreciation for the image, language and expression skills and the evaluation for the theme of the poem. The so-called preliminary appreciation of the work refers to a summary for the image, language and presentation skills. The candidates just need to focus on the characteristics of poems instead of quoting the classic or to compare with other works. This Change not only increases the difficulty for the appreciation of poetry, but also makes teachers change their teaching methods and shift their emphasis from problem-solving skills to more effective teaching strategies to enhance student's ability for appreciation of ancient poetry. Through the analysis for the examination papers and students' performance, this paper explores the perspective of ancient poetry appreciation and review strategies for the College Entrance Examination from the methods of the appreciation and examination techniques respectively. The author believes that as long as we can integrate the characteristics of poetry in the actual teaching, starting from the basis of the text, we will feel author's emotion. Cultivating students in the aspect of text reading and emotional comprehension, we will achieve maximum results with little effort, which greatly hikes up the students' overall ability, including that for appreciating poetry. In practice, we need to guide the students in the following aspects: to find the key words in poetry; to follow the dynamic meaning in poetry; to focus on the imagination, and strive to reproduce scenes described in the poem and to carefully understand the beauty of Rhetoric. If we can do like these, it will become easier to improve the skills of the students and their test capabilities.
