Research universities, engaged in the dissemination, production and application of knowledge, play an important role in economic and social development, scientific and technological progress, and the spread of advanced culture and the interests of national security as the important part in the country's competitiveness. The overall quality of teachers is an important indicator measure of the quality of research universities. The working condition and performance of teachers is closely related not only with their own development, but also the future of universities. As the universities continued to strengthen their internal management, the performance appraisal of teachers were paid more attention, and a series of corresponding performance appraisal standard system was formed. However, generally speaking, there still exist some problems in the construction of appraisal system and its implementation process because of some reasons, for example, the short story of research universities in our country, the complexity and characteristics of teachers work, the bias in ideas and methods of performance appraisal. Therefore, how to build a set of effective performance appraisal standard system, which is in line with the characteristics and requirements of research universities, is currently an important research topic in the management system reform of research universities.Through analysis on the present situation and the existent question of teachers performance appraisal in research universities in our country, this article constructs a set of performance appraise standard system of teachers in research universities initially. Analysis on the present situation of performance appraise of teachers in research universities by survey. The weight of performance appraisal standard were distinguished through the study on the content and characteristics of the work of research university teachers. Introduces the AHP in the process of the construction of appraisal system, and confirm the performance appraisal, standard system.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is about the purpose and significance and methods of the research based on the study on the past researches. Basing on the academic research of appraisal, the concepts of performance appraisal, its function, method, process and characteristic are stated fully in the second part. The third part aim at the present condition and existing problems in the performance appraisal standard system in our research universities. The fourth part is the establishment of teachers Performance appraisal standard system in research universities, through expert questionnaires and AHP to determine the indicators and their weights. The same time, find the characteristics and the defects in the design. The last part is about the conclusion of study, the next research plan and vision.
