Study Of Junior Middle School Students' Education Streaming In Rural Areas

Education streaming is a way of realizing social mobility,through which the talents social strata wanted can be cultivated and the aim of social division can be achieved.Junior Middle School is the first stage of education streaming in nine-year compulsory education in China.Students can choose general Senior Middle School for the foundation of higher education,they can also accept the secondary vocational education or directly step into the society.Due to various reasons,junior middle school graduates prefer general Senior Middle school to secondary vocational education in the vast rural areas of China.Although secondary vocational education can provide technical workers for economic and social development,it has received less attention.In rural Junior Middle School the dropout rate is quite high.The unreasonable streaming made the development and exploitation of human resources invalid,seriously impeding the development of economy in rural areas.So it is very necessary to study the reasons behind rural Junior Middle School's education streaming in China.The research is based on a case study of X school's education streaming of M Township in eastern Henan.the author takes the 3th grade students,some parents and teachers as the main research object.Through questionnaires,interview method and literature the paper has analyzed the X middle school student's educational streaming status,and hopes to find out the reasons for education streaming,and their analysis.The main contents of the paper are as follows:Part 1.The research describes the background and the cause,the aim and the significance,the main research object and method.Then it defines some basic concepts,reviews some domestic and foreign documents about education streaming.The paper summaries the present research results,the empirical study of education streaming in China is rare.This part is the introduction.Part 2.The research discusses the relevant theories of education streaming from two aspects of social division and social mobility,and shows the importance of education streaming.It is an effective means of social division.Education streaming is the product when the social division of labor develops to a certain stage.Education streaming serve social division of labor.It is a critical mechanism and component content of social mobility.Education streaming lays a foundation for students to be engaged in different careers and to step into social stratum,and it is closely related to their future social status.Part 3.The research first introduces basic situation of X school of M Township and its school's education streaming from 2006 to 2008,so we can get a general idea about X school students'education streaming in the past three years.Then through the questionnaire of students and interviews with some parents and teachers,reveal the status of X school students'streaming.The author grants 232 questionnaire forms and gets valid 200 back.According to parents'career and educational background,the author chooses 5 representative parents,and makes individual interviews.According to teachers'teaching subject and gender differences,the author makes individual interviews with 4 teachers.The statistical analysis of questionnaire and interviews provide a basis for further reasons mentioned below.Part 4.Through the questionnaire of students,interviews of some parents and teachers,The research concludes and summarizes the reasons that affect rural junior middle school's education streaming.It results from the joint effects of various factors such as society,school,family and students and so on.The part has analyzed society'situation of urban-rural dual economic structure and traditional thought in two respects,and schools'situation of rural junior middle school's educational goals of and the depression of vocational schools,and family'factor of parents'career, education level and family economic status.At last, the part analyzes students'factor of their interests and learning achievement.
