The 16th session of Communist Party of China has set the goal of building a more comprehensive well-to-do society in China, which contains two connotations: one is that this well-to-do society will benefit every citizen in China; the other is that it will cover all aspects of society. Widely concerned, higher education equity is an indispensable part of our goal. This study takes Suzhou, a forerunner in achieving the goal of building a more comprehensive well-to-do society, as an example, summarizing its effective practices, namely, appropriate allocation of pre-higher education resources, comprehensive improvement of the equity level of good education resources, promotion of higher vocational education, indraught of excellent external higher education resources, encouragement of continual education, development of lifelong learning system.Based on the analysis of Suzhou's experience and practice, together with an examination of current higher education equity issues in China, this study, enlightened by successful practices in some developed countries, makes several useful proposals in promoting higher education equity during China's comprehensive well-to-do society drive, which may enrich higher education equity theories, and serve as a useful reference for its practice.
