Guided by the theories of Teacher Professionalization and Career Guidance, this thesis analyzes the necessity of the occupational competency construction of the career guidance teachers in the secondary vocational school. Based on learning from the developed countries, this thesis discusses the requirements, contents and the strategies of the competency construction of the guidance teachers in the secondary school. The main aim of this thesis is to improve the career guidance teachers'occupational competency.The whole thesis consists of three parts, they are: introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction lays out the basic issues of aim and meaning, the core concept definition, literature review, research structure and method. These issues highlight the significance and the feasibility of the thesis and set the stage for the following discussions. The main body includes four sections:The fist section begins with the contrast between the pressing needs of the competency construction under the teacher professionalization and the reality of competency inadequacy of the guidance teachers in secondary vocational school. This section points out the necessity of the occupational competency construction.The second section analyzes the occupational activities'particularities of the guidance teachers, which contains work roles, job responsibilities and working environment. This section clarifies the differences between the guidance teachers in the secondary vocational school and the general teachers, the guidance teachers in other kinds of schools or universities. These differences lay the foundation for the scientific construction of the teachers'competency.The third section clearly explains the contents of the occupational competency consturction. The author of this thesis believes that in order to qualify the counseling and guidance work in the secondary vocational school, the guidance teachers in the secondary vocational school should be equipped with three aspects of competencies which comprise with eleven detail abilities. They are four kinds of special competencies which include career planning teaching ability, career development counseling ability, vocational guidance and service ability and career guidance administrative management ability; four kinds of method competencies which consist of knowledge reserve and integrating ability, self-development ability, practical monitoring and self-reflection ability, analysis and prediction ability; three kinds of social competencies which is comprised with advanced occupational philosophies, unique occupational emotions and spirit, vivid personalities.The fourth section put forward the countermeasures and suggestions to construct these competencies. This section points out that the formation and optimization development of all these competencies needs joint efforts of the government, social, universities, secondary vocational schools and individuals.The last part is conclusion which reaffirms the author's points of view and shows the author's limitations and hopes.
