The twenty-first century is not only an information and knowledge age, but also an era of globalization. Computer and English have become the basic standards of the talent. In order to improve English teaching, multimedia courseware has begun to be applied in English reading teaching in senior high schools, which has brought opportunities and challenges to the teaching of English. English reading is an effective way to learn English. Therefore, the research of English reading teaching methodology with multimedia becomes a task of English teachers. Therefore, to learn more about the current situation of the application of multimedia courseware in English reading classrooms in senior high schools becomes the direct reason for writing this essay. Through the survey, it has been found out that multimedia courseware can help improve English reading in senior high schools. Meanwhile,there exist some problems that need to be settled. For example, how to make better multimedia courseware; how to use it better in class,to name just a few. Based on the result of the survey, the writer also puts forward some suggestions.This essay consists of four parts. The first part is the introductory section, which not only introduces the current situation of English reading teaching in senior high schools and the necessity of the application of multimedia courseware in English reading classrooms, but also points out the purpose: to know more about the current situation of the application of multimedia courseware in English reading classrooms; and the attitudes of towards it as well as its undeniable problems.The second part introduces some theories concerning the research, such as the definitions of multimedia courseware, English reading teaching and related theories, including the teaching ideas of Humanist and Multiple Intelligences.The third part is the body of study. Based on the questions put forward in Partâ… , the writer does some research by means of questionnaires and interviews in order to know the current situation of how multimedia courseware is applied in teaching English reading, and teachers'and students'attitudes towards it.In the fourth part, the writer analyzes and discusses the result of the study, and then draws a conclusion that the advantages are obvious. At the same time, there are some undeniable problems, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects. First, too much information makes students confused. Second, teachers are easy to ignore the"leading role". Third, the class lacks verbal communication. Fourth, it is hard for teachers to have individual teaching. Finally, the form of multimedia courseware being used now is too simple, thus leading some problems to occur in class. In order to solve these problems, the writer offers some suggestions. First of all, teachers should study the theories relevant to the teaching of English reading. Besides, teachers should adhere to the principle: do everything for the students'development. Apart from that, teachers should pay more attention to classroom management. Teachers also should quote"Learning Autonomy Case" in teaching.Finally, teachers should improve the ability of integrating multimedia with teaching theories.It is hoped that this survey can be a great help in the application of multimedia courseware in English reading classrooms in senior high schools.
