At present, the regional higher education development of our country has a serious problem such as lack of coordination. And as we know, to promote coordination of the regional higher education is the key point to ensures the premise and foundation of the healthy and rapidly developing for our country's higher education. Also the coordination of regional higher education comprises several aspects:the first is the coordinated development between regional higher education and external factors such as economy and population; the second is the coordinated development in the higher education of different regions; the third is the coordinated development in the internal systems of regional higher education itself. This paper mainly studies the coordinated development between regional higher education and external factors such as economy and population. To clarify the relationship between the regional higher education development and economy as well as population, ensures important prerequisite of the coordinated development of regional higher education. Construction of indicator system of the regional coordinated development in the regional higher education, on one hand, provides an important reference value for the adjustment of the regional construction in the higher education; on the other hand, provides the appropriate guidance for the policy-making of related authorities; furthermore, it is conducive to scientific treatment of the relationship between regional higher education and regional economy as well as regional population.The article mainly focuses on the depth study of index system of regional higher education and economy, the coordinated development of population, including construction principles of index system, theoretical basis, domestic and foreign index systems those have existed, identification of index areas, perspectives and methods of selecting indexes, identification of indexes, identification of index weights, test of index system, and so on. First, this article establishes the principles and theoretical bases of index systems by means of qualitative research, summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of domestic and foreign index systems those have existed. Second, it selects related indexes of economic, demographic and education in order to make quantitative analysis, and rules out the indexes repeated at a high level by means of correlation analysis. To construct a simple index system, this article uses principal component analysis to reduce the dimensions of the original indexes, extracts the corresponding principal components, identifies the specific indexes in all levels, identifies the weights of the indexes in all levels by means of AHP and factor analysis, constructs the index system of coordinated development of regional higher education in our Country, the reliability scientific rationality were testified by the coordination which were calculated by various provinces through the comprehensive scores, thus conclude the lack and innovation and the future in this prospects.
