On Humanistic Objectives Of Science Education In University

In Universities, science educational objective system consists of scientific objectives and humanistic objectives. Scientific objectives is the surficial objectives to grow "intellegence", while the humanistic objectives is the deep or essential one to develop "human being" as a whole. Both of above put together made the mission of whole man education possible. By studying the three basic factors of science education, it is clear that in China there is lack of humanistic objectives in science education in universities:the scientific knowledge is lack of humanistic value load; the teaching and application of scientific methods is unable to convey the humanities; the scientific spirit highlights only one dimension:truth. This status results from both Scientism in objective set and Utilitarianism in value guidance.To recover the humanistic objectives is the obligatory pursuit of science education in universities. On the one hand, humanistic objectives is an integral component of science education objective system, and it is interdependent and mutually reinforcing with scientific objectives. On the other hand, humanistic objective is more essential in the objectives of science education, and there are three reasons to support it:it reflects the nature and requirements of science education that is to educate human being; science education has a profound cultural and historical heritage; scientific objectives needs humanistic guidelines. Whenever humanistic pursuit becomes the specific objectives of science education in university, science education goes on the road with good circle that science and humanity generating and supervising each other.The ultimate humanistic objectives of science education in university is to educate rational good man. However, this humanistic objectives establishment takes scientific objectives as a premise. Scientific rationality is the ability guarantee to do good, and scienctific conscience is the inner driving force to do good. Humanistic objective is the unity of rationality and goodness. To achieve and realize the humanistic objectives of science education, it is a must to stick to the consistency of knowledge, conscience and behavior, to enhance the humanistic load and mining of science education carrier, to give full exemplary role play of model teacher, and to adopt multi-value guidance in educational assessment.To specificate the humanity objective is not only the need of science education in universities at present in China, but also the accordance with the international trend of educational objectives humanization. The new educational objectives set of international level, the word "scientific literacy" which conveys a strong humanistic message, and the "scientific humanism" raised by UNESCO, etc., all indicates that the humanistic side become increasingly manifest in the objective system of science education. With the changing and updating of science personnel cultivating ideas, the establishment and specification of humanistic objectives is guaranteed.
