As the shift from elite higher education to mass higher education today, the employment situation is increasingly rigorous, university students are undertaking greater pressure in job—hunting。Hence, the issue on how to enhance their competitiveness has drawn much attention in our society. At present, a large number of university graduates are usually subjective and blind in choosing careers, due to the lack of adequate career recognition, self-position and awareness of career planning.Career planning involves the education on individual comprehensive analysis of career needs as well as the ability of self-planning and enterprising. It is also the best way to guide the students' career cognition, establishment of career goal, career role choice and self-development. Therefore, career planning for college students has significant and strategic importance to enhance students' competitiveness and comprehensive quality, improve the quality of graduates employment, promote the sustainable and harmonious development of higher education and maintain social security , stability as well as its sustainable development. Therefore, under current conditions, the thematic study on career planning which is of great significance, may speed up Chinese career planning education for college students, and provide guidance for students.On the basis of a great quantity of literatures on career planning at home and abroad, the dissertation defines concepts like profession, career and career planning. The contents, types, main tasks and significance for career planning of relevant theories are systematically analyzed and summarized through the analysis of career choice, career development, and career anchor theory. Meanwhile, the history and current situation of career planning education in the United States, Japan and other developed countries are compared and summarized, on the basis of which the corresponding inspirations for Chinese career planning education are concluded. The history and experience of Chinese career planning education are summarized and the existing major problems are found out based on the summary of history and corresponding experience of Chinese career planning education. The relevant factors of career planning for both individuals and universities are specifically analyzed, which defines the respective roles and duties individuals and universities should play and conduct. Aiming at the problems in both theoretical and practical processes, the solutions are also proposed. As well, a whole course guidance system of career planning education is presented, in which individual career planning and university career planning service coordinate with each other.
