Moral education is the lifeline for colleges and universities to cultivate high-quality talents with all-round development. Our party and country have held a number of meetings, demanding that moral education in colleges and universities be strengthened and improved. Schools and teachers also have made great efforts for moral education. However, the effect is not satisfying. For a long time, moral education in colleges and universities mainly focuses on visible moral education. Under the conditions that social environment has become very complicated and the factors influencing university students become diversified, simply relying on visible moral education such as moral education curriculum is not enough, and various other factors should also be applied to strengthen moral education influence on university students in order to improve the actual effect of moral education, so that university students can develop ideological concept, political views and moral norm that accord with the development of the society. Then the issue of Hidden moral education has to be concerned.Hidden moral education is a novel type of education in which moral educators make education plans and education schemes according to predetermined educational goals so that certain environment, activity places and cultural atmosphere are created for the educate and consequently students can be unknowingly influenced by the unconscious, indirect and covert education activities.Under the guidance of the important document of the central party committee concerning strengthening and improving university students'ideological and political education, the thesis comprehensively applies the theories of related subjects such as ideological-political education, ethnics, pedagogics and so on, and systematically probes into the new subject of hidden moral education in colleges and universities. The whole thesis is divided into three sections. Section one first analyzes the characteristics of hidden moral education in colleges and universities based on a clear definition of hidden moral education, then classifies hidden moral education in terms of content, in the last analyzes the functions of hidden moral education; The second section analyzes the necessity to optimize hidden moral education in colleges and universities, then section two presents the current state of hidden moral education in colleges and universities from the aspects of achievements and defects, finally, the second section analyzes the reasons for the defects from the perspectives of subjective cognition and objective practice. Section three puts forwards some measures to optimize hidden moral education in colleges and universities aiming at the current state and the defects of university hidden moral education.
