This paper is an exploratory research about the social work supervision of native service. Currently, there are limited researches about the social work supervision, most of which use the method of quantitative research, but few use the method of qualitative research. Rare papers about the social work supervision in mainland China also focus on the supervision of students ` professional internships. For the above reasons, this study takes one-year social work supervisory experience of the author as a basis and uses the qualitative research method, to explore the characteristics of the function of the social work supervision on native service, and provide advices on how to do the supervision work on local service. This paper takes the first trial mentoring program on children of migrant workers as the research context, and the social work service team of China Youth University for Political Sciences (CYU) as the research object. Including the author, 6 supervisors and random sampled 16 supervisees out of 32 will be in-depth interviewed. The main research question is that what are the characteristics of the function of the social work supervision in mentoring project? and how to provide professional supervision on local service?Based on the qualitative research method, The author collects materials through interviews, observations and documentation and analyzes the research data considering the author`s supervisory experience and taking advantage of the perspective of Merton's functional analysis, and finally concludes the characteristics of the function of social work supervision on local service. This research Conclusion is that: administrative supervision makes up a large proportion in the entire supervision work; educational supervision takes a most important part of the supervision work, and so does supportive supervision; personal relationships between supervisors and supervisees will make more contributions than the official authority; supervisors tend to meet the requirements of service providers, but not the organizational goals; and group supervision and peer supervision are very popular in this research. Based on these conclusions, recommendations about the social work supervision are also provided in this paper.
