A Study On The Practicality Of Four Representative Textbooks For Teaching Chinese As A Foreign Language

In this thesis, I chose four acclaimed textbooks as my objects of observation, they are:Chinese Tutorial, New Practical Chinese Reader, Boya Chinese, Contemporary Chinese. All of which are wildly used in the whole world and states, Meanwhile, they all followed the principle of practicality as acclaimed. Considered on my limited time and energy, the Ba-sentence will be the starting point, through which to discuss how much these four textbooks did well in the principle of practicality.First of all, I reviewed the researches referring to the Ba-sentence in three angles, which are the sentence patterns level:we extracted some high rate lower classes, and their order to teach; the semantic level:mainly use Displacement Schema Theory which put forward by professor Zhang Wangxi,and the pragmatic level, the Ba-sentence are usually used as instructions and statements.Second, system carding was carried out among all of four textbooks’ part related to the Ba-sentence. Such as how these four textbooks deal with the Ba-sentence in grammar way, their lower classes and their order in those textbooks; the practicality of the content referring to the Ba-sentence; and the explanation and exercises.Third part is about to inspect in what degree they are matching between the researches and the textbooks, what’s more, which textbook arrange them more better or practical. Combined the researches of the Ba-sentence and the observation of four textbooks, it’s good to follow the certain order and choose given lower classes which is high rates and frequently-used in grammar way. Besides, considering the pragmatic function of the Ba-sentence, it’s necessary to make the text and involved words match students’ daily needs. The exactly scenes to present the grammar will be preferred, and this part is where the textbooks different from each other and convey their own unique features, meanwhile it’s the reason of why the users chose the certain textbook. At last, we also need pay attention to the explanations and the practices referring to this grammar. Step-by-step will be preferred.As to the means, the paper put to use the horizontal comparison method among four textbooks, besides, score is also as a creative use to measure in which degree they did well.To sum up, practicality is an important guiding principle for the compilation of teaching materials. This assessment which covers all aspects of one certain grammar, has practical significance for the preparation of the TCSL teaching materials.
