Modal adverb refers to an adverb in a sentence that indicates the tone. It plays a modification role in the entire sentence and is usually used to indicate the tone attitude and personal evaluation of speaker or sentence subject. Such adverbs enjoy a large number, profound semantics, flexible usage and high utilization, and have unique characteristics compared with other adverbs. For this reason, modal adverb is a relatively important part in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, and it is a little more difficult to study modal adverbs. With the promotion of Chinese language teaching in the world, the number of Japanese students studying language in China is gradually increasing, the teaching object and external conditions of the teaching curriculum of Chinese as a foreign language have changed, and the previous educational mode is gradually unable to adapt to some teaching requirements at the international level. Therefore, the relevant researches should be conducted according to the characteristics of each country’s own social environment and language habit, and the relevant knowledge structure and educational mode of Chinese language curriculum education suitable for the characteristics of each country should be developed. In order to guide teaching, 53 common modal adverbs are selected from degree syllabus and teaching materials for sorting, summary and research in this paper. Meanwhile, the data bank of the Chinese Proficiency Test(HSK) is made use of to collect the error analysis generated when Japanese students study and use modal adverbs for investigation and analysis, thus summarizing the types of modal adverbs to which errors occur, and making a detailed analysis of reasons why errors occur when students use such adverbs. In this paper, based on the relevant literature and my own experience, the relevant principles of processing modal adverbs when writing textbooks and the teaching suggestions in the classroom are summed up. I hope to provide help for the teaching of Chinese language for Japanese students.
