Kesum village, which is located in Changzhu town of Nedong county, Lhokaprefecture, has long been known as the first Democratic village in Tibet by having thefirst Democratic reform and Democratic eletion.Kesum village elected the first farmer association in Tibetan history on July5,1959,established the first rural party branch in the history of Tibet on December2,1959, andthe first people’s commune on October7,1965. Long before the Democratic reform,Kesum was only a one of manor of Socon Wangqen-geleg, the Galoins of localgovernment who owns6manors in Lhoka prefecture. Living a miserable life bysuffering various exploitation and brutal oppression, the serfs have no any land of own,any livestock, any freedom.On1951, the peaceful liberation of the Tibet brings glimmers of hope to the messesof serfs, and the beginning of Democratic reform marks the final emancipation of serfs.For half century, Kesum village has witnessed great changes under the loving care andefforts from the central people’s government, people have gained freedom, equality anddignity, and are full enjoying the fruits of modern civilization. They were greatlymotivated to use enthusiasm and creativity to building of united, democratic, affluent,culturally and ethically advanced and harmonious socialist society.This thesis, consist of six chapters and has picked Kesum village, with which fullof universality and typicality as case study. The first chapter would be the introduction,by introducing the reason or the significance of the topic of theis theme, and hackle therelevant researches and give a brief introduction of the object of this study. Chapter twoportrayed Kesum village under the brutal feudal serf system followed by hacklingadministrative history or the news report of Socon family, and chiefly focused on thehistory of Kesong manor, and restored the wretched life of the serfs. Chapter threeportrayed the developing status of Kesum village after the peaceful liberation of theTibet. Chapter four pictured the changing life and the living actuality of Kesum peoplefrom political, economical, cultural and social terms. Chapter five offers the theoreticalanalysis by demonstrating the social change by analyzing politic, economy, culture andsocial organization of society.This thesis has discussed the historical changes of Tibetan countryside from thefeudal serf system to the harmonious and prosperous new socialist countryside, trackingthe historical changes of Kesum village by referring to the documentation, field survey,and interview, outlined the history changes and development mechanism of whole modernized Tibetan countryside from a microscopic view. By summarizing the processof changing Tibetan countryside, provide a historical experience for the positiveoperation and development for future society of Tibet.
