With the ecological deterioration and resources scarcity, as well as the improving public environmental awareness, green supply chain management (GSCM), which takes environmental considerations into account of supply chain management, has been increasingly regarded as one of the most important management strategies for the enterprises competing into 21 century. It is especially significant for Chinese enterprises, which want to enter international market by enhancing the environmental management and improving the ecological performance of their products. GSCM definitely has important strategic significance to facilitate Chinese enterprises to achieve their sustainable development. However, the development of GSCM is still in the beginning stage either in terms of academic research and practical implementation. Meanwhile, with the integration of global economy and China's entry to the WTO, Chinese enterprises are facing more and more "green barriers". Studying the basic theories of GSCM and also its application in China would be meaningful in both academic and practical viewpoints. The research concept is proposed based on a broad literature review on GSCM in China and abroad and a further understanding of the status of environmental management in China. Data collection has been made with a questionnaire, which is elaborately designed according to the literatures and opinions from environmental experts home and abroad. Statistical package of social science (SPSS) has been used as the software tool for data analysis. Main factors of affecting factors and practice in the manufacturing industry in China have been identified according to the results of exploratory factor analysis of the data. The sensitiveness of Chinese enterprises to such GSCM affecting factors and current levels of the real practices have been decided with a describing statistical analysis to the main factors. Then the relationships between the above affecting factors and practical factors have been studied using the correlation analysis. In the following, the focus is turned to the study of the influencing patterns and extents of GSCM influence factors to practical ones in accordance with the results of the regression analysis and a comparison of the situation in China to its foreign counterparts. The problems and weaknesses currently existing in GSCM in China have been identified and analyzed in the last paragraph, and some solutions have been suggested accordingly. This thesis would facilitate Chinese enterprises to improve the practical level of GSCMand support the decision-making in a scientific way.
