At the same time of entrance in new century, the human also enter a bran-new age----the age of knowledge economy. In this age, the knowledge becomes a most important and basic producing element, and other producing elements must be renovated and setup by the knowledge. Moreover, the human regarded as carrier of the knowledge, that is, a burgeoning resource, will play more and more important effect in the knowledge economy. The knowledge workers who assemble knowledge, information, science and technology will receive more and more attention. They use their knowledge to add enterprises'products and service values. Compared to tangible assets controlled by minority investors, enterprises'knowledge capitals disperse in the knowledge workers'brain. So, how to manage and increase knowledge workers performance is an important issue that many enterprises management concern about. The paper is based on the background of the knowledge economy, and analyzes the several aspects of the performance management system in the age of knowledge economy. At begin with, we introduce the basic concept in the traditional performance management system, and discuss the basic flow which include performance plan, performance practice, performance evaluation and performance feedback. Then, we expatiate the concept of the knowledge workers, and analyse that their characters is higher scarcity, higher translating value, higher risk, higher human capital and higher cooperation in the economic view and also is freedom, individuation, diversification and innovation. Based on the theory of the traditional performance management system, the paper discusses the problems existing in the system of the performance management involving the problem in the performance view, the problem in the performance evaluation and the problem in the performance reward. Furthermore, according to the shortage of the traditional performance management system, we rebound the performance index of the knowledge workers which including the benefit index, the efficiency index, the delayed index and the risk index, and propose the countermeasures how to promote the performance of the knowledge workers. At last, we take the existing performance system of the SZAP company in Shenzhen City as the research object and analyze its problems, then resign its performance management system.
