This thesis, based oninternational trend of regional economic cooperation and the current situation of china'sparticipation in this process, analyzes the necessities and feasibilities of establishingeconomic cooperation mechanism from both theoretical and realistic perspectives. Itexplores the current situation of cross-strait economic communications and industrialcooperation and concludes that establishing a cross-strait economic cooperationmechanism could get mutual benefit in terms of coordinating economic policies, creating more opportunities outside of the WTO frame, maximizing the integration ofcross-strait potential advantages, achieving positive effects in trade enlargements,scale-economy and structural adjustments, and lastly taking advantages in furtherglobalization process. Mainland has been making great efforts to realize the mechanismfor cross-strait economic and trade communications. Many experts and scholars havemade plentiful researches on the concrete economic cooperation patterns, objectives andapproaches. However, until now, both the cross-strait common market project and theplan under the frame of CEPA have their respective weaknesses. This thesis plans tomake further discussions on the basis of these already proposed projects, to clarify theintentions of establishing cross-strait economic cooperation mechanism, to enrich itsconnotation and most importantly to put forward some detailed considerations andadvices.
