Metal sheet plays an important role in construction, automotive, aerospace and other industries. With development of the domestic plate processing technology, the market demand for plate type becomes more and more diversified. For example, in the flexible roll forming technology, the diversity and accuracy of the plate has a significant influence on the molded product which need the support of high precision sheet metal cutting technology.As the cutting equipment developed by the North China University, the flexible slitting machine could process variable width sheet, and having the characteristics of low costs and easiness to control shearing quality. The flexible cutting machine controlled by servo motors has three degrees of freedom and could process metal plate with any curve. The research on motion control could help not only to improve cutting accuracy and quality but also lay the technical foundation for further promote the use of equipment.After understanding the mechanical structure, control systems and relevant hardware of the flexible cutting machines, this paper studies the control accuracy and transient characteristics of the displacement control system in open-loop, semi-closed loop and whole-closed loop, using the experimental data, and provides an experiment all basis for the choice of control mode for complex motion control system.; According to the shears structure and servo motor control theory, the control algorithms of curve cutting are proposed, and being verified in co-simulation environment of LabVIEW-SolidWorks, and cut able plate size at different feeding speeds being given; Interface program between AutoCAD and LabVIEW is designed and the three-axis servo-motor control and motion states monitoring program is completed under the LabVIEW development, which forming the seamless connection from the board design to motion control. After completing the variable-width plate cutting experiment, the sheet cutting precision and quality are analyzed which laying a solid foundation for future work.
