Research Of FDI Clusters For Economic Growth Of Blue Economic Zone Of Shandong Peninsula

Investments of multinational corporations (MNCs) grow fast in global scope, tending to clustering. FDI cluster is studied and recognized by more and more foreign and local scholars. Over 30 years of reform, Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula made an outstanding contribution in attracting foreign investment and showed a certain degree of clustering phenomenon, which plays an important role in economic growth. So it is valuable and significant to make a proactive and systematic study for FDI cluster in Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula. Firstly, on the basis of introducing the related concepts of foreign direct investment, FDI Cluster, the domestic and foreign research summaries, this dissertation gives denomination of FDI cluster, analyses the classifications and characteristics of FDI cluster, and introduces some typical FDI cluster at home and abroad.Secondly, the dissertation analyzes FDI cluster status of the Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula. Analyzes FDI condition in Shandong Province from space and time angle, namely the FDI development tendency and present situation in the Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula; uses the index of Trade and Development Conference of the United Nations (UNCTAD)in"2002 World Investment Report"--Achievement index and Potential index, quantifies FDI of the 7 regions in the Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula; then takes Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai as an example to analyze the situation of FDI cluster.Thirdly, this dissertation discusses the contribution of FDI cluster on the economic growth theoretically and empirically, which takes seven core cities as research subjects and statistics, econometrics as guide, using Panel data to validate contribution of the FDI cluster on GDP, capital formation, import and export and industrial structure of Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula. It draws conclusion that FDI cluster plays an important role in GDP,foreign trade and secondary industry, but does not on capital formation, the primary industry and tertiary industry.Finally, according to empirical results, this dissertation proposed recommendations on how to use FDI cluster better to promote economic growth the Blue Economic Zone of Shandong Peninsula. It includes optimize the investment environment, to improve the absorption of the average size of FDI projects; further widening financing channels, to promote the contribution of FDI on domestic capital formation; accelerate the pace of industrial restructuring, optimizing the layout of FDI investment; further optimize the export structure, enhancing the role in promoting the import and export trade and so on.
