Research On Dalian Customs During Japanese Colonial Rule

Modern Dalian, suffered destruction and devastation from the imperialism, is a typical colonial city. Russia, Japan and other countries occupies Dalian one after another, they invades it and implements colonial rule in Dalian. After Russo-Japanese war, Japan occupies Dalian and starts its long history of colonial rule of more than 40 years. During its colonial rule, for the purpose of further consolidating its colonial rule and practicing economic aggression and export of capital to China, Japanese imperialism decides to establish Dalian Customs in Dalian areas depending on its advantage of concession, and thus to realize its aim which controls Dalian and even the economic lifeline of the entire northeast region, making Dalian Customs become a special tool of colonial aggression of Japanese imperialism.This paper starts from the angle of historical materialism and takes the establishment, formation and development of the Dalian Customs as its mainline. It gives a deep analysis research on the Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule. From the aspects of the establishment background of Customs, the organization settings and adjustments of Customs and a series of formation and maturity of system of Customs and so on, the paper gives a profound analysis on the characteristics of Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule, that is, management model of Japan-oriented, special tariff system and customs functions which be subject to colonial policy. Based on the analysis above, the paper makes an objective evaluation to the Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule from two aspects. Firstly, on the bad effect, the establishment of Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule further deepens the colonization degree of Dalian and expands the output of goods and economic exploitation which from Japanese imperialism to China, at the same time, Japanese imperialism smuggles goods frantically to China depending on the Dalian Customs, which greatly increases the economic crisis of China and worsens the life of people. Secondly, we should not just focus on its bad effect, but should pay attention to its objective reaction. The establishment of the Dalian Customs, to some degree, makes contributions to the economic development and prosperity of Dalian city, meanwhile, it provides certain reference for the construction and development of the Dalian Customs in new period.Through the research on Dalian Customs during Japanese colonial rule, this paper restores the historical facts of Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule from all aspects of Custom. This can not only help us to get a clear understanding of the aggressive nature of Japanese imperialism, but also make us do an objective evaluation on Dalian Customs during the Japanese colonial rule. In brief, the research work in this paper, on the one hand, helps to promote the research on the history of Dalian city, on the other hand, makes up for the inadequacies of academic research in a sense.
