This article makes a detailed research on the performance appraisal and compensation design of hotel managers by means of combing theoretical argument, quantitative analysis and case study, and thus works out a set of index system of performance appraisal and compensation design for hotel managers.Based on the review of previous theory of performance appraisal and compensation design, this article makes an approach to the impact of the theory of entrustment-agency on performance appraisal, the prevalent modes of manager compensation abroad as well as the progress of its application in China. From the industry's point of view, the article also analyses the present situation of China's performance appraisal and compensation design of the hotel manager, and also points out the existing problems and irrationality concerning the two aspects. Taking the LD hotel as an example, the article designs the index system of performance appraisal for the manager by using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and systematically assesses the operational performance in 2005 through applying the system into practice.
