As international community pays more and more attention to the issue of the relationship between trade and environment, both environmental measures under WTO framework and trade measures in multilateral environment agreement share the same form, named the green trade barrier (GTB). Undoubtedly, it is theoretically significant to study the concept of the GTB, impacts of the GTB on the mechanism and effects of international trade. In recent years, the trigger events that developed countries frequently use GTB to restrict the export from China have caused negative effects on Chinese trade a lot. Therefore, it is practically important to analyze the issue of GTB and its effects on Chinese foreign trade and the overall economy as well, especially for the sustainable development of China's export. There are some significant researches on GTB in many aspects nowadays, but basically speaking, these researches are separated from the studies of the influents on the sustainable development of China's export. So a systematic research must be conducted. This thesis puts the panel model to the evaluation of GTB. The thesis is divided into four parts. At first, the thesis gives summary and some comments on the previous literature review and also it states the background of the research. The second part analyzes the components of GTB, GTB's history, contents, characters and trends. In the third part, the thesis analyzes the sustainable development of China's export and its evaluation factors which sets up the base for the next part. In part four , the thesis gives an empirical analysis of the GTB's effects on the sustainable development of China's export both positively and negatively, which could be categorized in: export commodity quantity and the growth rate, the global competition, Chinese export commodity structure, the international trade relationship between China and developed countries. On the basis of the previous analysis, in the fifth part, the author concludes and suggests the specific effective countermeasures to reduce the negative effects of the green barriers on Chinese foreign trade.
