Since the reform and the open, the industrialization of our country has been accelerated; such a phenomenon is especially evident in the cities in the developed regions such as the Changjiang Delta, the Zhujiang Delta and so on. Therefore, the contradiction between the need and the supply of the land resources has become increasingly acute, as a result, how to make sure both the utilization and the protection of the land resources has become an important issue for the governments and the land management departments of all levels. The Changzhou City is located in the north of the Changjiang Delta and the south of the Jiangsu Province, where the enterprises in townships is advanced and the industrialization is rapidly realized, however, the spatial arrangement of the industrial estates in the Changzhou City is far from meeting the demands of lasting development for the recent years. The economic and social developments of Changzhou have achieved great success since the reform and the open, which is a representative of the south of the Jiangsu development model. But as with other developed regions, Changzhou city is facing some contradictions on the path of sustainable development, such as the current and long-term, development and protection and so on. This paper is supported by two projects of "Research on Spatial Integration of Industrial Land of Changzhou City", "Comprehensive land use planning of Changzhou city (2005-2020)".Based on the theory of sustainable development, firstly, the paper analysis the land-use status of Changzhou city and discusses the contradiction between supply and demand of land resources. Secondly, the paper open out the contradictions between supply and demand of arable land resources, through quantitative and qualitative analysis. Thirdly, the feasibility of sustainable development in Changzhou City is discussed. Finally, according to the land-use characteristics, the paper proposes sustainable land-use countermeasures. The conclusions of the paper are as follows:(1) Changzhou city have general land-use characteristics of economically developed areas, which are obvious contradiction between the demand and supply of land resources and further deteriorated land-use ecological environment.(2) In the next 15 years, the economy and society of Changzhou City will be sustained and rapid development, which bring on the strong demand of all types of construction sites. Various types of land resources, the contradiction between land demand and supply are most intense, Changzhou City of cultivated land can not be achieved the balance.(3) Through analysis the sustainable development environment of Changzhou city, the sustainable use of land resources has become an important part and the only way to realize the sustainable development of Changzhou City. If various measures are adopted, Changzhou city could achieve sustainable use of land resources, under the precondition of protecting the health and moderate development.(4) The establishment of environment-friendly land-use patterns and the intensive use of various types of conservation and land resources will in favor of achieving sustainable use of land resources. To sum up, the paper study sustainable land use of developed areas as a case study of Changzhou city, which posts the contradiction between land resources development and protection, current and long-term. This study put forward some measures about the sustainable use of land resources, and is also valuable for other cities or similar areas to use for reference.
